Star College QB Announces NFL Draft Decision

first_imgGeneric photo of footballs in an end zone.(Photo by Streeter Lecka/Getty Images)NFL teams are always searching for their next franchise quarterback, and perhaps Duke star Daniel Jones will be the next in line. With the 2019 class looking rather weak at quarterback, Jones will have an opportunity to be a first-round pick. Besides, his intangibles and experience should bode well in the NFL.Scouts everywhere were surprised by Justin Herbert’s decision to return to Oregon, as the Ducks quarterback was considered the top prospect at his position. One prospect that will battle Jones for draft supremacy is Dwayne Haskins, who was electric for Ohio State in his first year as the starter. While he hasn’t declared just yet, the expectation is that he’ll leave the Buckeyes after breaking almost every single-season record within his conference.Although Haskins isn’t ready to make his final decision yet, Jones has informed his coaching staff that he’ll enter the NFL Draft, per Stephen Wiseman. He’ll have the chance to boost his stock at the NFL Scouting Combine and during his pro day.Duke’s Daniel Jones has informed Duke coach David Cutcliffe he is declaring for the NFL Draft. He’s expected to be a first-round pick.— Stephen Wiseman (@stevewisemanNC) December 31, 2018Jones finished this season with 2,674 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions. His last game for the Blue Devils was impressive, as he threw for 423 yards and five touchdowns. Several teams will be in the market for a new quarterback this offseason, and Jones could be the perfect fit.last_img read more

Prajnesh Gunneswaran must not fall in trap of playing safe: Zeeshan Ali

first_img Press Trust of India New DelhiMarch 20, 2019UPDATED: March 20, 2019 18:35 IST Prajnesh Gunneswaran recently recorded the biggest win of his career at the Indian Wells. (@ATP_Tour Photo)HIGHLIGHTSPrajnesh Gunneswaran is currently at his career-best 84th spot in ATP rankingsIndia’s Davis Cup coach Zeeshan Ali said Prajnesh must keep playing in bigger tournamentsPrajnesh was ranked 243 in the world at the start of 2018With age not on his side, Prajnesh Gunneswaran must avoid the trap of playing safe on the Challenger circuit to defend points and should go full throttle in search of wins at the biggest tournaments, India’s Davis Cup coach Zeeshan Ali suggested Wednesday.Playing the best tennis of his life, Prajnesh recently broke into the top-100 and also competed in his maiden ATP Masters series event at the Indian Wells, second only to Grand Slams. The 29-year-old recorded the biggest victory of his career by toppling world No.18 Nikoloz Basilashvili in the second round after coming through Qualifiers. This week, he is trying to make the Miami Masters main draw and is one win away from sealing his spot.”Prajnesh, at this stage of his career, does not have the luxury of time and has to keep making bold and tough choices to get himself in a position where getting main draw entries in the big events are guaranteed,” Zeeshan told PTI in an interaction.”The only way to make large jumps in the rankings is to play and do well in the bigger events. A lot of players sometimes make the mistake of playing safe and protecting their ranking and points by playing smaller tournaments,” he added. After a very successful 2018, Prajnesh will defend a lot of points as the season progresses and therefore winning matches at big tournaments will help him, according to the captain. He was ranked 243 at the start of 2018 and is now at a career-best 84th — all in a space of 15 months.advertisementPrajnesh and Yuki Bhambri broke into the scene at the same time but the Chennai player lost five crucial years of playing due to stress fractures in his knees. But after being motivated by his father S G Prabhakaran, Prajnesh tried and made a memorable comeback. He has managed to remain injury-free so far.It all began with a win over Yibing Wu in the must-win fifth rubber in Davis Cup tie against China. He has only got better and has beaten top-30 players such as Denis Shapovalov and Benoit Paire. This year, in the first six tournaments of the season, Prajnesh has earned 154 points.”Playing the qualifying round in Miami was a much better decision than playing a Challenger event where even if he won the event, Prajnesh would have only moved up a few spots on the ATP rankings.”How he does this year will also impact his entry into the Olympics next year. Doing well in the next few weeks will also give him some cushioning for the rest of the year when points start to drop off from last year,” Zeeshan said. Also Read | Indian Wells 2019: One of my best matches, says Prajnesh after stunning BasilashviliFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. Pollard after Wankhede heroics for MI: I am 31, there is a lot of cricket left in me

first_imgPollard after Wankhede heroics for MI: I am 31, there is a lot of cricket left in meWest Indies all-rounder and Mumbai Indians stand-in captain smashed a 31-ball 83 to help the former champions successfully chase 198 against Kings XI Punjab on Wednesday. Pollard said he is grateful to Mumbai Indians for showing faith in him even after an ordinary IPL season in 2018 graphs commentary scorecard Akshay Ramesh MumbaiApril 11, 2019UPDATED: April 11, 2019 10:49 IST IPL 2019: Kieron Pollard led Mumbai Indians to a sensational win in his first match as the franchise’s captain ( Courtesy by BCCI)HIGHLIGHTSKieron Pollard’s 31-ball 83 helped Mumbai Indians beat Kings XI Punjab on WednesdayPollard smashed 10 sixes as the stand-in captain helped MI gun down a 198-run targetImpossible… when you break it down, it’s I’m possible: Pollard on MI’s thrilling winWest Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard said he has managed to successfully bury the memories of a poor 2018 Indian Premier League season and that he is enjoying his cricket for the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing season of IPL.Kieron Pollard insisted that his cricketing career is far from finished and that he is looking forward to giving his best every time he steps on the field. The 31-year-old big-hitter also added he is grateful to Mumbai Indians for showing faith in him and retaining him despite his poor form for the three-time champions last year.Pollard’s comments came after he played a sensational knock to help Mumbai Indians gun down a 198-run target against Kings XI Punjab at the Wankhede Stadium. Captaining the side for the first time in the absence of injured Rohit Sharma, Pollard took the responsibility and took the Kings XI bowlers to the cleaners, hitting a 31-ball 83, including 10 sixes on Wednesday.Pollard promoted himself to No. 4 in Mumbai Indians’ chase of 198. Despite losing partners at regular intervals, the MI stand-in captain showed glimpses of his vintage self and single-handedly destroyed the KXIP bowling attack.Even as the asking rate was shooting up, Pollard kept his cool and targetted bowlers to great effect. Kings XI captain R Ashwin, pacers Sam Curran and Ankit Rajpoot were all at the receiving end of Pollard’s brutal hitting on Wednesday. What a victory this for the @mipaltan. The dressing room celebrations say it all #MIvKXIP pic.twitter.com/ZXDmrv6Ql3IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) April 10, 2019With 15 needed off the last over, Pollard smashed Rajpoot for a six and a boundary and brought the equation down to four from four. However, the MI captain got out in the final over only to see Alzarri Joseph keep his nerves and take Mi past the finish line.advertisementWhen you’re losing, people tend to have all sort of opinions: Pollard”You can say yes, you can say no [best IPL knock?]. For me what is more important is that we won the game. And I was able to stay calm under a bit of pressure. Obviously, I didn’t finish off the game which I wanted to do. But that’s why it’s a team sport. The guys really rallied together,” Pollard told the media after MI’s thrilling win.”Impossible… when you break it down, it’s I’m possible. Anything is possible. We have power-hitters. We have got Krunal [Pandya], Hardik [Pandya] and myself. We wanted close to 94 of the last 8 overs. When you break it down, it’s just two big overs. We got those two big overs. They had a couple of bowlers whom we had to target. It worked well for us. Not every day, you get to chase 190-odd runs but we did it tonight. Much-needed two points for us tonight.”It is what it is. 2018 is gone. Obviously, when you’re losing, people tend to have all sort of opinions. People who have not played the game and people who have played the game and struggled as well tend to have opinions.”I am a cricketer, 31 years of age. And I have a lot of cricket left in me. People who are close to me back me. That’s most important. It didn’t work last year but last year’s gone. We have life, everyone needs to get up in the morning. The sun is going rise in the east and set in the west. There are better things other than winning and losing and scoring runs. There’s family and there are things to look forward to. So it’s just a matter of me coming (back).””They (Mumbai Indians) showed faith in me, they retained me for this season and they started me as well. So it’s just a matter of me coming out, enjoying my cricket once again and that’s exactly what I am doing.”Pollard on chances of making 2019 World Cup squadPollard had managed just 133 runs from nine matches for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2018 but the big-hitting West Indies star has turned it around this season. Pollard has already scored 179 runs from six matches at an average of 44.75 and a strike of 194.56.Asked if Pollard is hopeful of seeing his name in West Indies’ 2019 World Cup, the MI star said: “Well, you know, every day I get the opportunity to play, I want to do well. There have been a lot of turmoil is West Indies cricket over the last couple of years. But what we have seen in the last couple of weeks is a change.advertisement”Pollard was one of the guys blacklisted. The best I can do every time I step on the cricket field, is try to put runs on the board. There are people there who have the job to select. We will see how that goes. As I said, I am 31 years… Chris Gayle is 39 and he’s playing and whacking it around.”Shedding light on the success West Indies players have had so far in IPL 2019, Pollard added: “For us, it’s not a battle. It’s about enjoying. We know what we can do. Chris batted superbly well. Fellow West Indian, [Andre] Russell. He is smacking the ball. It’s great to see him hitting the ball. [Sunil] Narine as well.”Also See | He is a legend: Hardik Pandya after Kieron Pollard delivers thrilling win for MIAlso Read | Thank god for giving me strength to do this: Kieron Pollard after 31-ball 83 vs KXIPAlso See:For sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. (AP Photo)HIGHLIGHTSAn arrest warrant was issued against India cricketer Mohammed Shami on MondayShami’s wife Hasin Jahan had accused him of domestic violence in early 2018However, Shami has denied all such allegations and said he is focused on his careerA day after an arrest warrant was issued against India pacer Mohammed Shami in domestic violence case, his wife Hasin Jahan said her husband, being an India cricketer, thinks he is ‘too powerful’.In early 2018, Shami’s wife Hasin Jahan had accused him of domestic violence. Shami and his brother were booked for domestic violence under IPC Section 498A. Since Hasin Jahan made the allegations, Shami did not appear before the court. The Kolkata’s Alipore court on Monday issued an order asking Shami to surrender in 15 days and apply for bail. Shami’s estranged wife thanked the judicial system for issuing the order in the case.”I am grateful to judicial system. I have been fighting for justice more than a year now. You all know, Shami thinks that he is all too powerful, that he is a big cricketer,” Hasin Jahan told ANI.Meanwhile, Hasin Jahan also accused the police of harassing her.”Had I not been from West Bengal, had Mamata Banerjee not been our CM, I wouldn’t have been able to live safely here. Amroha (Uttar Pradesh) police was trying to harass me and my daughter, it was God’s grace that they didn’t succeed.”Mohammed Shami was part of the recently concluded Test series against West Indies where he finished with 9 wickets in 2 matches. Wine From a Bottle is So Last Year

first_img Ditch the Bottle Opener Because Canned Wines are Having More than Just a Moment America’s Oldest City Has a Super-Modern Dining and Drinking Scene When you think of buying an alcoholic beverage on tap, most likely your mind goes to craft beer. But it’s becoming quite the thing for bars and restaurants to add kegs of wine to their offerings and fill customer’s wine glasses from a tap. This results in a lower price because of the lack of bottling  (Can we get an Amen?). It’s great for the environment because there’s no packaging waste (glass, corks, labels, cardboard and foil), plus the kegs are reusable. Below you will find three such establishments where wine on tap is all the rage.Sante Wine Bar, Asheville, North CarolinaLocated in the historic Grove Arcade in the downtown area, Sante Wine Bar became the first in the state in 2012 to offer wine on tap. The current selection of 12 different varieties poured from kegs includes the following—Estate Acrobat Pinot Gris ’10 – Oregon; Gotham Project ‘Anassa’ Moscofilero – Greece; Tangent Albarino ’11 – Spain; Charles & Charlest Rose ’11 – Columbia Valley, WA to name a few.The Chop Bar, Oakland, CaliforniaThis restaurant has a variety of wines stored in stainless steel kegs that they serve by glass or carafe to their customers. The wines complement their diverse menu, which includes charcuterie, artisan cheeses, and such entrees as pork confit, oxtail poutine and rainbow trout.Vera Restaurant, Chicago, IllinoisRecently named by Chicago Magazine as one of the city’s top wine bars, Vera has some varieties on tap to complement the Spanish tapas plates. Operated by Elizabeth and Mark Mendez, the wine selection features seasonally rotating choices from Spain, Europe and the Americas.
