Greek Carer support program launch

first_imgThe Louise Multicultural Community Centre, a Victorian-based organisation that helps refugees and migrants in Australia, has launched a pilot Greek Carer Support Program to assist the Greek community in the Eastern Region of Melbourne to better understand their entitlements and the resources available to help them. The Louise Multicultural Community Centre (LMCC) aims to provide Greek carers with information and skills they will need to minimise isolation; make available resources through partnering and collaborative arrangements with other organisations, as well as provide social outlets for carers and to empower them to be self sufficient. “Research has revealed that first generation Greeks, because of the nature of their work when they first arrived in Australia being highly physical and arduous, often experience later in life muscular skeletal problems,” said Cynthia Shaw of the LMCC. “So very often their needs for care are very specific and being aware of how to handle these specific needs is crucial.” Councillor John Koutras from the City of Whitehorse said “the Greek Australian community is too proud to ask for help” and stated that programs such as this one are a very important. He thanked the LMCC for having the courage to identify this need. More information: or call (02) 9285 4850 Facebook Twitter: @NeosKosmos Instagramlast_img
