LBSU is one of 12 teams from the West that are ranked in the top 30. Duke sits in the top spot, followed by Pepperdine, Purdue, Georgia and Arkansas. The 49ers are the highest-rated Big West Conference team, and UC Irvine is No. 58. The 49ers will next play in the Edean Ihlanfeldt on Oct. 10-12 at the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash. Tennis begins The two-time defending Big West Conference champion 49er women’s tennis team will being its season this weekend when it competes at the CS Fullerton Fall Intercollegiates. Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello returns six letterwinners from last year’s squad, including sophomore Stephanie Bengson, the 2005 Big West Freshman of the Year. Bartlett inducted Former 49er men’s gymnastics coach Ken Bartlett was inducted into the University of Minnesota Club Hall of Fame. Bartlett had an outstanding senior campaign at Minnesota in 1953, winning the all-around and parallel bar titles at the Big Ten Championships, and placing second in the flying rings and horizontal bar. Winners announced The Department of Athletics at Long Beach State announced the four award winners for the Hall of Fame Inspirational Awards which will be presented at the Annual Hall of Fame Banquet on Oct. 20. Winning the Lynn Hoyem Leadership Award is women’s basketball athlete Jayme Connors. Winning the Todd Hart Courage Award are women’s volleyball athlete Erika Chidester and baseball athlete Sean Boatright, and winning the Bill Bovee Determination Award is men’s volleyball athlete Tyler Hildebrand.
